Design and Development

This project addresses a need I repeatedly encountered while browsing DVDs at the library. After typing title after title into my phone to check a movie's rating, I decided to create a mashup site that leverages the PhoneGap barcode plug-in, Amazon's API for UPC barcode lookups, and Rotten Tomatoes' API for movie ratings. The resulting native app implemented using PhoneGap and JQuery Mobile allows users one-step access to a movie rating using only the barcode on the DVD. The web-based app available here doesn't support the barcode scanning but does pull data using an actual barcode or title: www.geoffnet.com/search.
